Sydney Harbour, Tuesday 30th January 2007.
Signs along the shore warn recreational anglers of the danger of eating their catch due to high levels of dioxins found in harbour fish. The government advises no more than 150 grams per month should be consumed. Many anglers return their catch, but it hardly seems worth the effort. I would prefer to eat my catch but I certainly wouldn't eat anything from the harbour. Despite this, fishing on the harbour is still a very popular activity. All commercial fishing on the harbour has been banned since January 2006.

It's the last day of summer holidays for school kids. Mine decided to spend most of it at the beach. This is my daughter Sarah working on her surfing technique.

A big difference in the weather from yesterday. We had lots of rain overnight and through the morning. It makes a welcome change.

Bettington Street, Millers Point, Monday 22nd January 2007.
The Palisade Hotel was built in 1912 on a sandstone bluff overlooking the wharves in Walsh Bay and was popular with labourers working on the Sydney Harbour Bridge from 1923 to 1932. It has resisted the stainless-steel makeover of so many city pubs and retains it's tiled walls, floorboards and stained glass windows which make for make for an authentic pub experience.

This small, but lovely park was once a depot for the storage of piling and other timber essential for harbour upkeep. It was gifted by the Maritime Services Board to the local council and turned into a park in time for the 1970 Captain Cook bicentenary celebrations. The harbour views from the park are superb.
