Sydney Webcam...a different photo of Sydney every day
sydneywebcam > Photo Friday Challenge 17th March 2007: Heat.

Sculpture by the Sea - running along the foreshore from Bondi Beach to Tamarama - is Australia’s largest annual outdoor exhibition of contemporary sculpture with more than 100 sculptors exhibiting. A melted ice cream van, entitled "Hot, with a Chance of a Late Storm" by the Sydney based collective The Glue Society is one of my favourites.

Remembrance Day, November 11th 2006.

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them".

Nothing like a refreshing milkshake on a hot day.
sydneywebcam > Snails Bay, Wednesday November 29th 2006.

After a roasting hot day yesterday where the temperature hit 38c (102F) it's back to cool cloudy conditions. This month has had the most variable weather for a November that I can remember.

'Onkaparinga' is the Sydney home of AC/DC rocker Malcolm Young. Living mostly in the UK he often spends Christmas here.

The Main Quadrangle of Sydney's oldest university. As part of some forward educational planning for my teenage children I am taking them on tours of the various universities around Sydney. My daughter (13) loved this one, comparing it to the school in Harry Potter, while my son (15) thought it too old and stuffy.

The HQ of the New South Wales Police Marine Area Command, who are better known as 'Water Rats' due to a popular TV drama series from the late 1990's. Water Police were the first civilian form of policing established in NSW. In 1789, one year after the colony was founded, Governor Phillip created a 'Row Boat Guard' to patrol Sydney Cove for smugglers and convicts attempting to pass letters to ships anchored in the harbour.

A much nicer day across the city than yesterday. The smoke haze has cleared and temperatures have dropped to a milder 26C (79F).

sydneywebcam > Sydney Harbour Bridge, Wednesday November 22nd 2006.

A smoke haze hangs over the city from a large bush fire burning in the Blue Mountains to Sydney's west. The fire has been burning for almost two weeks and shows no sign of being contained. With the temperature hitting 38C (102F) today and strong winds blowing it's a tough job for the firefighters.
