This is the common brown Huntsman spider. They are large, long-legged spiders, measuring up to 15 cm across the legs. Despite their large size and quick movement they are relatively harmless to humans and are very timid creatures. I found this one on a wall inside my house and removed it to the garden.

Woolloomooloo's famous Finger Wharf (a wharf that juts out into the water) is so vast that it is home not only to the W Hotel but also restaurants, offices, a marina and a glitzy apartment complex that boasts Russell Crowe as a resident. This former working wharf has been sensitively restored and has retained essential features of the original wharf (built between 1905-22), preserving an icon of the city's colourful maritime history.

I almost stepped on this guy on my front lawn and thought it was a snake a first glance. In fact it's a Blue-tongue Lizard which is a large harmless lizard (this one is about 400mm long) that frequents suburban gardens. A blue-tongue in the garden helps to keep down the number of snails and plant-eating insects.

Canon 1D Mk II. EF 24-70 f/2.8L@70mm 1/125s f/13 ISO 200.St. Stephen's Church, Newtown, Thursday October 6th 2005. In the back streets of Newtown stands this gothic style church built in 1874. In it's grounds is Camperdown cemetery. This is an historic cemetery with some famous residents as well as the many humble, unknown, unremembered people whose names are not written in the books of history, but in the book of life. Many of the cemetery's residents have links with the sea, through a career in the navy, shipbuilding, sinking of ships or accidental drowning in the harbour. I have set up a special gallery here that shows a few of the graves with a little of the history behind them. EXIF DATA Canon 1D Mk II. EF 17-35 f/2.8L@17mm 1/160s f/11 ISO 200.

Following on from yesterdays photo this is another of those wedge shaped buildings. This is a private residence. There are lots of these style of buildings designed to fit onto tight triangular plots around Sydney.
