White Bay Power Station, Rozelle, Monday July 3rd 2006.
The disused White Bay power station, one of inner Sydney's oldest and most significant industrial sites, awaits plans for redevelopment. The coal fired station began generating electricity in 1917 and was the longest serving of Sydney’s four metropolitan power plants. Initially built to power the city’s trams and trains its contribution to the grid diminished as more efficient stations on the coalfields outside the city gradually came on line. The station ceased producing power on Christmas Day 1983.
